Clark County Superior Court and Clerk

The Clark County Superior Court handles all felony cases in the county. The Presiding Judge is Hon. Derek J. Vanderwood. The court uses Odyssey case management software along with OnBase document imaging, which together form one of the more complete digital court record systems in southwestern Washington. The clerk's office is on the first floor of the Clark County Courthouse, open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, with a lunch break from noon to 1 PM. You can reach the clerk at (564) 397-2150.

The Clark County Clerk page explains the full scope of the clerk's functions, including record access, e-filing enrollment, and copies. The clerk is an elected official and manages all case files from the time charges are filed through final disposition and any post-conviction proceedings. Clark County's Superior Court handles a high volume of felony cases given its population of roughly 500,000 people, making it one of the largest court systems in the state outside King County.

For electronic filing, the clerk uses the eFileWA system. Attorneys and parties can file documents electronically during clerk hours, from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. E-filing enrollment inquiries go to efilereg@clark.wa.gov. The electronic filing page explains how to register and submit documents through the system. Most recent felony case documents in Clark County are available electronically through this system.

The Clark County Clerk page provides access to felony records, case search options, and electronic filing information for the Vancouver courthouse.

The clerk page also explains how to request copies, set up registered Odyssey access, and contact the office with questions about specific case files.

Accessing Clark County Felony Records Online and In Person

The Access Records page for the Clark County Clerk explains how to view and request felony case records. In-person access is available at the first floor of the Clark County Courthouse during open hours. Case files can be viewed at the counter. Copies require payment at the standard rate. Pre-1996 microfilm records require a $30 search fee plus copy fees. Records from 1996 to the present are in the digital system and available on CD at $0.25 per page plus a $20 CD fee, or by email at $0.25 per page.

The statewide Odyssey Portal provides free anonymous name and case searches for Clark County. You do not need an account to search. Results show case numbers, charge descriptions, filing dates, and case status. Clark County participates in the portal, so recent felony cases appear there within days of filing. The portal does not display document images to anonymous users. Registered access requires enrollment through the clerk's office.

The Washington Courts name and case search is another free statewide tool that covers Clark County. It returns case information across all Washington courts and is useful when you do not know which county handled a specific case. For detailed records and documents, the clerk's office remains the primary source.

The Clark County clerk records access page explains in-person and remote options for obtaining felony case files and documents.

The page breaks down the fee structure for different types of records and explains the difference between microfilm-era records and those in the digital system.

Clark County Superior Court Page and Court Structure

The Clark County Superior Court page describes the court's general jurisdiction, judicial officers, and case types. The court handles Class A, B, and C felonies, as well as civil matters, family law cases, and juvenile proceedings. For felony records purposes, the Superior Court is the place where all charges above a gross misdemeanor are resolved in Clark County. The volume of felony cases here reflects the county's size and its position as one of Washington's fastest-growing counties.

Clark County's District Court moved to a new location as of February 2, 2026. The new address is 210 East 13th Street, Vancouver, WA. The District Court page has current contact information. The District Court handles initial appearances, probable cause hearings, and bail for felony arrests before cases move to Superior Court. Misdemeanor cases that do not rise to the felony level are fully resolved in District Court. Some District Court records for preliminary felony matters may be relevant if you are tracing a case from arrest through conviction.

Washington classifies felonies under the Sentencing Reform Act. RCW 9.94A.640 provides a process for vacating certain felony convictions after waiting periods and conditions are met. When a conviction is vacated, it is removed from public court records. If a search in Clark County returns no result despite an expectation of a conviction, a vacation under this statute is one possible explanation.

The Superior Court page also links to the court calendar and the clerk's access records portal for people needing to find specific felony case information.

District Court and the Clark County Sheriff

The Clark County Sheriff's Office is one of the oldest in Washington state, established in 1849. The current Sheriff is Sheriff Horch. The sheriff's department handles arrests, maintains the county jail, and produces incident reports and booking records for felony arrests in unincorporated Clark County. Contact information and services are listed on the Clark County Sheriff page.

Booking records from the county jail and incident reports from the sheriff's department are separate from the court records held by the Superior Court Clerk. Both can be relevant when researching a felony case. The sheriff's records cover the arrest and investigation phase. The clerk's records cover everything from the time formal charges are filed. If you need both, plan to contact both offices separately.

The privacy protections of RCW 10.97 apply to both courts and law enforcement agencies in Clark County. Arrests that did not lead to convictions have restricted public access. Felony conviction records, including judgment and sentence documents, are fully public under Washington law.

Clark County Record Copy Fees

The Clark County Clerk charges the following copy fees. Non-certified copies sent by mail cost $0.50 per page. Electronic copies delivered by email cost $0.25 per page. Certified copies require a $5.00 certification fee plus $1.00 per page. Records on CD cost $0.25 per page plus a $20.00 CD preparation fee. Pre-1996 microfilm records carry a $30.00 search fee before any copy costs apply.

The microfilm search fee is worth noting if you need older Clark County felony records. Many counties charge a research fee per hour, but Clark County's flat $30 fee for microfilm searches provides some predictability for older records. Current records in the digital system do not carry a search fee. For large files, electronic delivery at $0.25 per page is the most cost-effective option.

Payment is required before the clerk releases copies. The office accepts checks and money orders for mailed requests. In-person requests can generally be paid at the counter. For online requests through the Odyssey system, payment is handled electronically.

Statewide Conviction Records and WATCH

The Washington State Patrol's WATCH system provides statewide felony conviction searches for $11 per name. WATCH is particularly useful for Clark County given the county's population and the likelihood that someone may have cases in multiple counties. A WATCH search returns all Washington felony and gross misdemeanor convictions tied to a name, not just Clark County records. Arrests without convictions do not appear.

For formal criminal history checks, the WSP Criminal History Records division handles both name-based and fingerprint-based checks. The fingerprint check is more thorough and accurate, particularly for people who may have used aliases or who have records in multiple states.

The Washington Department of Corrections maintains an inmate and warrant search for people under DOC supervision. Clark County, as a high-population county, generates a significant number of felony convictions each year, and many defendants convicted of serious Clark County felonies are transferred to state DOC facilities. The DOC's search resources page explains the full range of tools available for locating people under state supervision.

The Washington State Digital Archives holds historical court records from many Washington counties. For Clark County cases before the digital Odyssey era, the archives may have scanned documents or indexes that can help locate older felony records without a full in-person search at the courthouse.

District Court at the New Location

As of early 2026, the Clark County District Court operates from its new building at 210 East 13th Street, Vancouver. This is a change from the previous location, so if you have older contact information or directions, update them before visiting. The District Court page has the current address and phone numbers.

The District Court at this new location handles misdemeanor matters fully and preliminary felony matters before they move to Superior Court. If you are trying to get records for a case that began at the District Court level in Clark County, the clerk for the District Court is the right contact for those early-stage records, while the Superior Court Clerk holds the full felony case file once charges were formally filed there.
